RHSC Presidents Message

Rocky Hill Soccer Club Parents/Guardians:

I am writing to you today regarding Concussion Awareness.  This is a serious problem that is being addressed both by the State of Connecticut and the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) which we are a member of.

Effective January 1, 2016 all CJSA clubs are required to make available a written or electronic statement regarding concussions.  This will needs to go out to each youth athlete, parent and/or legal guardian of each youth athlete participating in the youth athletic activity.

The written or electronic statement shall be made available upon registration of each youth athlete and shall be consistent with the most recent information provided by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding concussions.

Since Registration for the 2015-2016 season occurred in May of 2015, we are providing you with the material through this email blast which includes the electronic statement which is attached.

In addition, we are in the process of updating the Rocky Hill Soccer web site so that you will have access to the latest information being made available to us.

We have also communicated to all of our coaches, assistant coaches and managers that they are required to complete the “Heads Up Concussion Awareness Course” which must be done before the start of the Spring Season.

Attached you will find a Cover letter as well as a Concussion Awareness Form which are documents developed and based on the Center for Disease Control (“CDC”) for a Heads Up Concussion parent and athlete guidelines.

Here is what we are asking you to do:

  • Read the attachments as well as share this information with your families.  It is good to share regardless of whether they play soccer or not
  • Your team managers will be asking you to sign a team form acknowledging receipt and have reviewed the attached forms
  • All parents and players must sign the Team acknowledgment form before they are able to take part in Spring practices.  Note that we will be requiring you do the same when registering for tryouts for 2016-2017.

Thank you

George Hatzikostas
